Final Project: Family of Lighting Products

Mood and Audit boards, developed from current trends, used for inspiration.

or my final project, I designed a family of lighting products. Inspired by one of my favorite artists, James Turrell, I wanted to create products that used light bulbs in a playful, artistic way, much like how Turrell uses light installations as his art medium. While in previous projects I designed one final outcome, the challenge in this project was designing groups of products that clearly belonged together but were still different.

Final Designs

Drawn to organic shapes, wood, glass, and chrome, the final design centers around variations of a colorful orb light.

Demonstrates the lamp cage mechanism. The front door of the wood “cage” can open and close. The bottom of the glass orb can be twists to remove the light bulb for easy access.

Working Drawings

Before developing the final, I explored other lighting designs. While they differ from the final, I was consistently inspired by similar materials and light bulbs.
